Our Goals, as stated in our bylaws, is to provide several services to the BDSM Community of the Greater Baltimore area. This Educational Archive section is here to give an idea of our past presentations, seminars and workshops to promote safety and the health of our community. As a reminder, most of our seminars are open to the public so that anyone with a sincere interest in BDSM may come to us to learn; about us, about our ways, and our "different kind of love".

Join us for a day of Needles 101 with Baltimore's own Leigha Fleming. This will be a hands on workshop so be sure to bring your favorite pincushion. All materials will be included in the fee for the workshop.
Leigha Fleming, active in the SM community more than 11 years, moved to the Baltimore area from Oklahoma in late 1999. She is Executive Director of Baltimore AT EASE and on the executive board of the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom and head of its Incident Response Program. Leigha has been playing with needles and other sharp shinny metal pointy things for more than 10 years and loves helping other people discover the joy (and the fear and the fun and the magik) of what she calls "the ultimate penetration."

Alex and Janis have lived in the Baltimore area since the early 70's and have been into BDSM nearly all that time. "We just
didnt know what it was called". They joined the public scene about about 10 years ago when they started going to the
meetings of the Dominant and Submissive Society of Baltimore. While that group is now gone, it was the forrunner of the
Phoenix and BESS. They met many of their first scene friends there and attended the demos. "We couldn't spell BDSM
prior to joining. We were also very glad to find others like us and have made many more friends since then."
They have continued to explore this part of their lives, and remain active in the community. Alex is the moderator for the
local BDSM e-mail list and both can be found at many of the local clubs.
Throughout it all they have managed to be married 24 yrs, run a business together and raise 2 wonderful daughters. a
mess of cats and a couple dogs.
Roger & Debbie:
We have been married 31 years. We started in BDSM type activities almost from the beginning of our relationship.
We have been involved with the BDSM community since 1996, starting with the old Phoenix. We are not a "lifestyle"
couple. Although all of our sexual life revolves around D/s, in the rest of our life we try to maintain a 50/50
relationship.
Have you been looking for love and lovers in all the wrong places? Are there "right" places? Is polyamory the same thing as swinging? Is that the same thing as polyfidelity? Jonette is a mother, ordained minister and Wiccan priestess, Reikki master, masseuse, and certified Ro-Hun therapist, has been aware of her own bisexuality since adolescence, has lived an actively bisexual, polyamorous lifestyle most of her adult life, and is married to her Master in a committed Master/slave relationship in its 5th year. She has been facilitating discussion groups on various aspects of human sexuality and intimacy since the mid-70's and has been a featured speaker at the Lifestyles and Reflections swingers conventions and other alternative lifestyle events for more than ten years. She has been a student, practitioner and teacher of massage, kriya-tantra yoga; alternative personal growth, health, lifestyles and healing methodologies; psychic development and occult arts for over 25 years. Jonette has, for over 10 years, been working with guides Blue, Lothar, Michael and Dr. Lydia Weinstein and has been a member since 1982 of the Arthur Ford International Academy of Mediums.
In every culture, the power of touch has been recognized for its ability to heal and transform. In this discussion, we will talk about how this is a natural ability that anyone can employ and the basics of how to do it. We will also discuss the role of intention when touching someone. These discussions will center on how this type of touching with intent can be used in play space to reassure, support and nurture all participants regardless of role.
Whittney Matlock is a professional massage therapist in the DC area with 7 years in the field. His work centers on using intentional touch to trigger the healing dynamic within each clients to help them health goals. His specialty is in Myofascial Release and Unwinding, but has a diversified range of techniques that he uses when working on clients in order to meet their individual needs.
SM SPIRITUALITY: TOPSPACE, BOTTOMSPACE & SADOEROTIC ECSTASY A lecture/demo on play leading to deep, ecstatic, or trancelike states for top and bottom alike. Techniques (some borrowed from mystical religious experience) will include meditative breathing, the power of ritual, erotic surrender, releasing and managing the *inner animal* in scene, and topping on a deeper more vigorous, emotional and primal level.
Chris M is A Black Rose Emeritus Board Member, artist, writer, dominant (occasional switch) and SM educator, active with BR since late 1989. A one man exhibition of his erotic artwork was shown at Play House, Studio and Gallery, Baltimore Maryland, in Feb 1997, and his work is on exhibit in the Leather Archives & Museum in Chicago, Illinois. Most recently his illustrations graced the pages of Josephs Bean's latest book, "Flogging". He has presented SM workshops and seminars across the country including his home club of Black Rose, BR10, 98, 99, 2000, and 2001, The Phoenix Society of Baltimore, Beat Me in St. Louis 99, 2000, and 2001, New Orleans Power Exchange, Leather Leadership Council, Jacksonville Area Power Exchange, TALON, GMSMA, SM101 Anchor, TIED, ROPE, FLAME, SM101, River City Dungeon Society and as a guest lecturer at both Tulane University in New Orleans and Pace University, NYC.
Brian has been in the scene for a few years now but loves to tell people he is still a novice because of his thirst for knowledge. He has, in fact, become a Dom admired and respected throughout the community as a teacher, mentor, and coach. He especially enjoys meeting and talking to people who are just putting their toes in the water so to speak. Brian loves to show people how they can explore in a safe and fun way. How much money have you spent on your toys? Hundreds? Thousands? BDSM toys can be a major investment and caring wisely for that investment makes dollars and sense. But more important, the maintenance of BDSM toys is critical to the safety of bottoms/submissives. Ever wondered how to make your own leather toys?
Morgan, who for several years was the owner/craftsman/and (on rare
occasions) floor-sweeper for "Morgan's Toybox" BDSM toys, will present some of
his techniques for making whips, paddles, and other items working
primarily with leather. Handouts include a list of possible suppliers now
that "Tandy Leather" is no longer local, and several diagram/patterns for
making toys. In addition, on a first-come/first-serve basis, for an extra $10,
participants will be able to make their own leather paddle during the
workshop.
Controlling a bottom's senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch) can effectively change the whole psychology of a person. We'll be exploring various toys and techniques (both store-bought and homemade) that you can use to enhance both the reality and the fantasy in a scene. Of course, we will deal with all the safety issues.
Dean has been a part of the Baltimore/Washington BDSM community for nearly
ten years. Recognized as one of the area�s premier handlers of the single
tail whip, Dean�s fluid and sensual style combined with his precise accuracy
and knowledge allows him to provide a wide variety of sensations. His range
can be geared towards the most sensual or heavy and demanding single tail
players. Dean has adapted his own style and energy that he attributes to
his long time friend and teacher Bob Deegan. It has been said that the
range from Dean�s whip can be that of a soft stroke of a feather or
paintbrush. However, if so desired Dean can build this experience into a

Dean has had the pleasure of presenting many workshops for different groups
in the Baltimore and Washington area for many years. He has presented �Whip
Workshops in the Park� and co-presented at BR 99 with Bob Deegan. Dean also
hosted the single tail station at last years BR 2000 Exploritorium sponsored
by TNG. In addition, Dean will also be presenting the single tail at BR
2001.
Dean enjoys teaching his single tail techniques and philosophy to both new
and more experienced people throughout the BDSM community. In Dean�s
workshops, attendees will learn whip fundamentals, stances, throws, strokes
and safety issues. His hands on coaching will help each person understand
their own style and energy as it relates to their personal balance with the
single tail whip.
Anna aka Jrsygir1 from Behind The Scenes was not able
to present this subject. Instead of Anna's planned presentation
we enjoyed an informal discussion centered around topics that
Anna had planned to discuss: weight, sexual
identity, sexuality, the fear of rejection, physical limits,
acceptance, extreme weight loss, fat anger, and where to find
the coolest clothes.
